University Hospital to build 15-story patient tower: 4 things to know

Charlottesville, Va.-based University Hospital — part of the University of Virginia Health System — will undergo a $142 million renovation and expansion, according to Commercial Property Executive.

Here are four things to know about the project.

1. The 645-bed hospital will build a 15-story, 430,000-square-foot patient tower next to the main hospital in an area once used for a helipad.

2. The tower, scheduled for completion in fall 2019, will house a new emergency department, new surgical suites on the building's second floor, six floors of inpatient rooms and expanded ancillary services, according to the report.

3. The hospital will also renovate about 90,000 square feet of space in existing hospital facilities.

4. The multi-phase project is slated for completion in December 2020.
