Losses at Miami Health System Were Four Times Projections in 2009

Jackson Health System in Miami lost $203.8 million last year, four times the projected loss, and this year’s loss is now expected to be nearly triple that of earlier projections, according to a report by the Miami Herald.

The system’s CFO said he reduced the amount of reported revenue by $157 million for 2009, primarily because it became clear that many accounts receivable could never to be collected. He estimated that the hospital collected only 25.9 percent of every gross dollar of charges.
