From advancing biomedical research to supporting the construction of a pediatric campus, here are how five health systems are spending donations, as reported by Becker’s since May 6:

1. Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health received a $20 million donation from Sarah and John Lechleiter and Deborah and Randall Tobias to create the Tobias-Lechleiter Institute for Clinical Innovation. The institute plans to recruit 75,000 residents yearly in advanced medical studies; enroll 300,000 patients in the Indiana Biobank initiative over five years to aid research into genomic risk factors pertaining to Indiana’s population; attract and retain top fellows, students and faculty; enhance research resources; and increase the impact and pace of statewide medical research.

2. Santa Rosa (Calif.) Memorial Hospital, part of Renton, Wash.-based Providence, will establish cardiology and imaging centers through a $20 million fundraising initiative led by the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Foundation. The initiative will complete construction on the newly named Hansel Family Care Center, which was built in 2020. Philanthropists Henry and Marilyn Hansel have provided an initial $10 million gift, the largest in the foundation’s history.

3. New York City-based NYU Langone Health received a $15 million gift from the Blavatnik Family Foundation to advance biomedical research. The donation will support research on gene regulation, antibiotic resistance and cellular mechanisms that influence cancer and aging.

4. Houston-based Texas Children’s Hospital and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center received a $150 million gift from Kinder Foundation. The gift, one of the largest philanthropic donations made to an American pediatric hospital, creates Kinder Children’s Cancer Center, a joint venture of UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital. The cancer center aims to be the country’s largest and most comprehensive pediatric cancer center. It will be based in a new facility on the Texas Medical Center campus.

5. Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center received a historic nine-figure grant from the Moody Foundation to support their new $5 billion pediatric campus in Dallas, which is under construction. In recognition of the gift, the hospital at the new pediatric campus will be named Moody Children’s Hospital upon completion in 2031.
