Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center have received a historic nine-figure grant from the Moody Foundation to support their new $5 billion pediatric campus in Dallas, which is under construction.
The grant is the largest gift to date in support of the project, according to a joint May 6 news release.
In recognition of the gift, the hospital at the new pediatric campus will be named Moody Children’s Hospital upon completion in 2031, the release states.
Children’s Health and UT Southwestern, both based in Dallas, broke ground on the pediatric campus in October.
The campus will replace the existing Children’s Medical Center Dallas and encompass more than 4.7 million square feet of construction.
The campus will feature 552 beds and an enhanced level 1 pediatric trauma center with 90 ED exam rooms and 24 observation rooms. It will also include a new fetal care center, rehabilitation and therapy gyms, playrooms, and retail pharmacies.
“Naming the new hospital is a reflection of the deep trust and shared vision between the Moody Foundation, Children’s Health and UT Southwestern,” Frances Moody-Dahlberg, president and CEO of the Moody Foundation, said in the release. “Together, with Moody Children’s Hospital, we’re building more than a hospital — we’re building hope.”
Christopher Durovich, president and CEO of Children’s Health, and Daniel Podolsky, MD, president of UT Southwestern Medical Center, expressed gratitude for the gift.
The Moody family’s “generosity will be reflected in the state-of-the-art care provided at our new Dallas campus, helping us redefine pediatric health care and transform the lives of children and families across North Texas and the country for decades to come,” Mr. Durovich said in the release.
Dr. Podolsky added that the gift “marks a pivotal moment in our ability to reshape pediatric care across Texas, train the next generation of caregivers and accelerate vital discoveries that will continuously enhance our capacity to heal.”
The Moody family has long contributed to Children’s Health and the University of Texas System, and the nine-figure grant adds to the more than $400 million the family has contributed previously to the organizations.
Children’s Health and UT Southwestern have received other gifts to support the pediatric campus project, including a $100 million gift from the Rees-Jones Foundation and another $100 million gift from the Jean and Mack Pogue family.
