The expansion would allow for a renovation of the “tired, outdated, overcrowded” 80-year-old, 244-bed facility, said Rob Lord, CEO and president of Stuart-based Martin Health Systems.
A renovation would make all patient rooms private, upgrade and expand the emergency department, modernize the intensive care unit, expand parking and increase elevator capacity.
Martin Health Systems, a three-hospital network, also invested $110 million in an expansion of its Tradition Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Fla., which opened upgraded facilities to the public earlier this year.
