The hospital’s new ED has 76 private exam rooms, compared to the old ED, which had 56 rooms that were not private.

Cook Children’s Hospital’s unveiling of the new ED coincides with the start of schools across the county. According to Corwin Warmink, MD, medical director of the emergency department, there is an increase of emergency medical cases at the beginning of each school year.

“About a week into school is when we really pick up our volume, so we had to get this open for school just to be ready for the volume of school time,” said Dr. Warmink, according to the report.
