Atrium gets key approval to build new hospital

Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health, a part of Advocate Health, has won rezoning approval from the town of Cornelius, N.C., to build a new 154,000-square-foot hospital, the Charlotte Business Journal reported March 7.

The 30-bed Lake Norman Hospital is set to open in early 2025, with groundbreaking projected for June 2023, an Atrium spokesperson told Becker's. The town's board of commissioners approved the 35.6 acres of rezoning on the evening of March 6.

"The approval was the last step in the process and we are both pleased and appreciative of the unanimous approval and support from the Town of Cornelius," an Atrium spokesperson told Becker's. "We look forward to being able to better serve the residents who live and work near Lake Norman with our new hospital, currently scheduled to open in early 2025."
