Walmart's top execs take on new roles as company aligns operations

Walmart added responsibilities for some of its top executives as the retail giant aims to reduce the complexity of its operations, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg News.

Under the alignment, Walmart added real estate to the responsibilities of Mark Ibbotson, executive vice president of U.S. central operations. JP Suarez, who currently heads Walmart's real estate segment, will transition to Walmart's international business as an executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

In addition, Walmart will align team members managing its employee training academies with its human resources division, Bloomberg reports, citing the memo. Changes take effect June 2.

During the past year, Walmart has pursued several paths to streamline its operations. Strategies include cutting positions at its headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., closing 63 Sam's Club warehouses and shrinking its U.S. operations from six to four divisions.
