UPMC taps Michael Grace to lead Mercy hospital: 3 things to know

UPMC has appointed Michael Grace as president of Pittsburgh-based UPMC Mercy.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Grace.

1. Mr. Grace succeeds Will Cook, who was recently named the next president and CEO of Aurora-based University of Colorado Hospital.

2. He comes to this role from within the UPMC system. In his 14-year career with UPMC, Mr. Grace has held various positions, including executive administrator of the Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatrics, the UPMC Cardiovascular Institute, and as administrative services and physician relations director for the UPMC Physician Services Division. Most recently, he served as vice president of operations at Pittsburgh-based UPMC Shadyside, where he oversaw the daily operations for the 520-bed hospital.

3. Mr. Grace graduated from Slippery Rock (Pa.) University with a degree in healthcare administration. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from California University of Pennsylvania in California, Pa.
