Roper Hospital (Charleston, S.C.). Roper Hospital was founded in 1829 as the first community hospital in the Carolinas. This 368-bed facility boasts the first accredited emergency room in the region, a helipad on the roof, CyberKnife technology and a Heart & Vascular Center, among other amenities and services. Truven Health Analytics named it as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S. for the first time this year. Roper Hospital has also received several awards from Healthgrades, including the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, the Outstanding Patient Experience Award and the Stroke Care Excellence Award this year, among others.
