Long Beach city councils considers using former hospital as homeless shelter

The Long Beach, Calif., City Council approved a short-term lease to open a cold-weather homeless shelter at the former Community Hospital Long Beach on Dec. 19, the Press-Telegram reported Dec. 12.

Since 2000, Community Hospital has closed and reopened twice. In October, the property was sold to Long Beach-based MWN Community Hospital, which plans to use the hospital property as a wellness community. 

The northern part of the building will be used as the space for the 81-bed shelter.
