20 latest hospital, health system executive moves

The following hospital and health system executive moves were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last week. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Ash Gokli, MD, will be leaving his position as CEO of Memorial Hospital Los Banos (Calif.), part of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, to take a new job as Sutter Health's CMO in the Central Valley. 

2. Mary Shehan, DNP, RN, was named CNO of Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

3. Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., named Richard G. Azizkhan, MD, president and CEO, effective Oct. 19.

4. Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas named Adam Rudd CEO, effective Sept. 7.

5. Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health appointed Gwen G. Sandefur as the new COO of Spectrum Health Grand Rapids.

6. Arthur W. Nichols announced his retirement as president and CEO of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (N.H.). Don Caruso, MD, who has served as medical director in CMC/DHK's Office of the President since 2011, was named as Mr. Nichols' successor.

7. Gary R. Colberg will resign as president and CEO of Brunswick-based Southeast Georgia Health System after 14 years of service. Southeast Georgia Health System's board of directors selected Michael D. Scherneck, who currently serves as executive vice president and CFO, to serve as interim president and CEO, in addition to his continued role as CFO.

8. Memorial Hermann Health System promoted Brian Dean to CEO of Houston-based Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, effective August 23.

9. Gregory T. Wozniak, president and CEO of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa., part of Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, will step down in October after 16 years at the helm.

10. In early July, Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago welcomed Stephen DePooter as its new CIO.

11. New York City-based Lenox Hill Hospital, part of North Shore-LIJ Health System, named Irene Macyk, RN, BSN, as CNO and associate executive director of patient care services.

12. Jennifer Thomas, RN, was named CNO of Mercy Hospital Fort Smith (Ark.).

13. Mark McMath was named CIO of Memphis, Tenn.-based Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.

14. Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System announced two executive leadership changes at Lancaster (Pa.) General Health. Thomas E. Beeman was named COO of UPHS regional operations, and Jan Bergen was appointed president and CEO of LG Health.

15. Houston-based Harris Health System named Parikshet A. Babber, MD, as its new executive vice president and CMO.

16. Jackson, Miss.-based Merit Health added four new executives to the Merit Health Central management team. Sam Dean joined Merit Health Central as COO; Laura Knight, RN, BSN, was promoted to CNO from assistant CNO, a position she held since June 2013; Nicholas Renda was named CFO; and Mike Mudd was named assistant administrator.

17. Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky., named Lennis Thompson vice president and CFO.

18. Plumas District Hospital in Quincy, Calif., hired Caleb Johnson as CFO.

19. New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Catherine H. MacLean, MD, PhD, as its first chief value medical officer.

20. Stephen Warren, deputy CIO of the Department of Veterans Affairs, will leave his position for a different federal CIO position.
