Hospital for Special Surgery names first chief value medical officer

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery has named Catherine H. MacLean, MD, PhD, as its first chief value medical officer.

In this newly created role, Dr. MacLean will co-lead the Value Management Office, which is focused on improving how the hospital defines, measures and achieves value. She will also work to improve external quality transparency.HSS Dr. Catherine MacLean Chief Value Medical Officer

Dr. MacLean previously served as staff vice president at WellPoint's Center of Quality Measures and Improvement. She is a rheumatologist who earned her MD from the Washington University School of Medicine and her doctorate from UCLA School of Public Health.
