Reporting to the President, UCLA Health, CEO of UCLA Hospital System, and Associate Vice Chancellor, UCLA Health Sciences, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the UCLA Hospital System will provide leadership and direction for Hospital System operations, with accountability for operational and financial performance and the development and implementation of business plans and organizational initiatives. The COO will promote effectiveness and ensure coordination of operations throughout the Hospital System, working with the senior executive team.
The COO will be responsible for hospital operations, clinical service lines, hospital based clinics, ancillary support services including radiology and laboratory medicine, rehabilitation medicine including physical therapy, occupational therapy and respiratory therapy, operative and surgical services, licensing and accreditation, emergency preparedness and management, disaster planning operations, international program, Operation Mend, environmental services, transportation, dietary and nutrition services, plant operations and facilities maintenance and clinical engineering.
The ideal candidate must possess a unique combination of skills and abilities to successfully manage a complex set of responsibilities in an academic health system setting, including: a proven record of accomplishment in clinical operations, clinical program development and related business planning; a comprehensive and thorough understanding of all elements of health care delivery and the ability to effectively respond to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic conditions; the ability to understand patient and community needs; a leadership style that builds and maintains a climate of caring, respect and trust; excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster relationships and effective collaboration with clinical leadership, medical staff and hospital staff; and a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to cultivating diversity on all levels. Experience as a COO preferred. An advanced degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related field or equivalent experience is required.
