10 States With the Lowest Number of Births

Vermont had the lowest number of births of any state in the country in 2010, according to State Health Facts, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

The total number of births in the United States in 2010 was 3.9 million.

The ten states with the lowest number of births, according to the report, were:

1. Vermont — 6,223
2. Wyoming — 7,556
3. North Dakota — 9,104
4. District of Columbia — 9,165
5. Rhode Island — 11,177
6. Delaware — 11,364
7. Alaska — 11,471
8. South Dakota — 11,811
9. Montana — 12,060
10. New Hampshire — 12,874
