Hospital officials emphasized they talked to communities members to hear their concerns before reaching their decision. Ultimately, the declining rate of births and operating costs for the birthing center drove the decision to close the facility, they said.
Consequently, expectant mothers will be transferred to Danbury Hospital’s birthing center. Danbury and New Milford hospitals operate under the same parent company Western Connecticut Health Network. Meanwhile, the New Milford birthing center will be repurposed for another service, possibly outpatient dialysis or outpatient physical therapy, according to the report.
