Top 10 private health plans

The National Committee for Quality Assurance recently released its annual ranking of private health insurance plans.

NCQA studied nearly 1,400 private, Medicaid and Medicare health plans and ranked more than 1,000 of them based on clinical performance, member satisfaction and results from NCQA Accreditation surveys.

The top 10 private health plans, according to the NCQA, are:

1.    Tufts Associated Health Maintenance Organization – HMO/POS (Mass.) 
2.    Harvard Pilgrim Health Care – HMO/POS (Mass., Maine)
3.    Harvard Pilgrim Health Care – PPO (Mass.)
3.    Harvard Pilgrim Insurance – PPO (Mass.)
5.    Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest – HMO (Ore., Wash.) 
6.    Tufts Benefit Administrators – PPO (Mass., R.I.)
7.    Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Southern California – HMO
8.    Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Northern California – HMO
9.    Martin’s point US Family Health Plan – HMO (Maine)
10.  Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts – PPO
