Russell Medical (Alexander City, Ala.). Russell Medical is a nonprofit acute care facility serving central Alabama. The hospital is an associate of the UAB Health System Community Network, but retains management and governance control. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama designated Russell Medical a Blue Distinction Center for maternity care in 2016. Since its opening in 1923, the hospital has expanded to include the Wound Care & Hyperbolic Medicine satellite location and a 20,000-square-foot fitness and rehabilitation facility that provides cardiac rehab, physical therapy and sports medicine services.
