Northern Hospital of Surry County (Mt. Airy, N.C.). Northern Hospital of Surry County opened its doors in 1957. As of 2015, the hospital housed a primary stroke center with The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark. Healthgrades recognized the hospital with its Pulmonary Care Excellence Award and the Patient Safety Excellence Award for the third consecutive year in 2017. The hospital includes 133 beds and in May 2017 partnered with Winston-Salem, N.C-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to expand its cardiac rehabilitation capabilities
