Illinois To Publish Hospital Performance Data

The Illinois Department of Public Health will begin publishing performance data on Illinois’ hospitals beginning Oct. 2009, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

The site will report data on a variety of areas including rates of hospital-acquired infections, the ratio of nurses to patients and the costs of 30 commonly performed procedures in hospitals and ASCs.

The Web site is the result of laws passed in 2004 that called for the reports. The process was delayed due to a need to amend the legislation and the recent “chaotic state of affairs” in the governor’s office, according to the report. IPRO of Lake Success, N.Y., will analyze the data and build the Web site, which will be similar to the one used by New York.

There is no information as to whether the site will provide aggregate or individual data, but the goal according to state officials will be to provide infection information on every hospital in the state.
