Central Vermont Medical Center (Berlin). Central Vermont Medical Center, part of Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network, was established in 1963 through the merger of Montpelier’s Heaton Hospital with Barre City Hospital. Today, the hospital is licensed for 122 beds. Central Vermont Medical Center was named among the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals by the National Rural Health Association in 2017. Healthgrades also recognized the hospital in 2016 and 2017 for excellence in pulmonary care.
