New Mexico was deemed the most stressed state in the U.S., while Nebraska was the least, according to WalletHub’s annual ranking published March 24.
To conduct the ranking, the personal financial website compared all 50 states across four key dimensions: work-related stress, money-related stress, family-related stress, and health- and safety-related stress. Those dimensions are evaluated using 40 metrics, ranging from average hours worked per week to the state’s quality of infrastructure.
Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the highest level of stress. WalletHub used each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score.
