74% of pediatric radiologists report understaffing: What to know

When surveyed, 74% of rank-and-file and 64% of decision-making pediatric radiologists said their organizations were understaffed between 2022 and 2023, according to a study published March 11 in the Journal of the American College of Radiology

The data comes from the latest American College of Radiology and Radiology Business Management Association workforce survey.

Here are four more things to know from the study: 

  1. Among rank-and-file pediatric radiologists, 96% said they were allowed to telework during the day and 90% said they were allowed to telework at night.
  2. When combined, the average income of decision-making and rank-and-file pediatric radiologists was $495,000.
  3. Ten percent of rank-and-file pediatric radiologists said they were planning to retire by the end of 2024.
  4. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants were utilized by 54% of decision-making pediatric radiologists. Radiology assistants were utilized by 23%.
