NPSF Lucian Leape Institute brings on noted patient advocate Sue Sheridan

The National Patient Safety Foundation has added Sue Sheridan to the organization's expert think tank, the Lucian Leape Institute.

Ms. Sheridan is the director of patient engagement for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and is known throughout the patient safety field as a leading advocate for patient engagement in healthcare.

"Sue Sheridan has made incredible contributions to the patient safety field," said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, president and CEO of NPSF, and president of the NPSF Lucian Leape Institute. "I know I speak for all of the Institute members in saying how pleased we are to have her join us and share her experience and insight."

Driven by her family's adverse experiences in healthcare, Ms. Sheridan has spent more than ten years working to raise awareness regarding medical errors and patient safety issues at both the national and international level. She has previously worked with the World Health Organization and is the cofounder of Consumers Advancing Patient Safety, a nonprofit organization focused on enhancing partnerships between consumers, providers and the healthcare system.

"I am honored to join the NPSF Lucian Leape Institute," said Ms. Sheridan. "The inclusion of the patient perspective in the LLI demonstrates their commitment to the value of partnerships with patients and the patient community to help create a safer, more compassionate and just health care system."
