The system is a one month into its four-month pilot program that sends some emergency department patients home with telemonitoring equipment. Patients enrolled in the program suffer from acute conditions that normally require short inpatient admission periods, such as blood clots, skin infections or pneumonia.
The telemedicine kit comes with vital sign equipment and a wireless connection. A nurse visits the patient daily to administer intravenous medicine and checks in with the patient every four to six hours.
The health system plans on releasing program results when the number of program participants becomes statistically significant.
