Echocardiography Doesn’t Affect Treatment Paths, Is Overused, Study Finds

The study analyzed data from more than 500 patients undergoing transthoracic echocardiography, a widely available, safe and highly versatile routine procedure for cardiac patients.

The study cited the more than 70 percent of echocardiograms that are classified as appropriate but do not cause changes in care as grounds for re-examining current appropriate use criteria.
