The admission conference call is a single conference call that brings together attending physicians, residents and nurses from the ED and inpatient teams.
Researchers studied physician and nurse perceptions of its effects on patient care at an ED where the admission conference call is used for 29.8 percent of admissions. In 2017, 653 admission conference calls were conducted at the ED. Researchers surveyed 43 nurses and 89 physicians.
The study shows that most of the providers surveyed felt that the process supported patient safety, and none said it increased risk. Additionally, most providers said that the process improves interdisciplinary alignment and its benefits outweigh inconvenience. Respondents were neutral on the effect of the call on throughput time.
