Measles count continues to rise: 4 updates

The CDC reported 22 new measles infections in the past week, bringing the total annual case count to 1,044 as of June 13.

Four updates:

1. The weekly case increase marks a drop from the 41 cases reported during each of the past two weeks, according to CIDRAP News.

2.The number of ongoing measles outbreaks also fell from seven to five in the past week.

3. California, Pennsylvania and Washington are each experiencing an outbreak, while New York is battling two separate outbreaks in New York City and Rockland County. On June 13, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill to eliminate religious exemptions for school vaccinations amid the surge in measles infections.

4. In total, 28 states have reported measles cases. The annual case count marks the highest number of measles infections seen since 1992.
