To be considered for the designation, hospitals must undergo an intensive application process that requires the submission of evidence showing positive patient treatments and outcomes by disease experts at the facility. They must also demonstrate “significant contributions to rare disease patient education, physician training and research,” the release states.
The nine most recent facilities added to the organization’s exclusive network of designated hospitals across 27 states include:
- Cleveland Clinic in Ohio
- Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor
- New York Center for Rare Disease at Montefiore
- New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Rare Disease Center in New York City
- Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University in Illinois
- Stanford Medicine Children’s Health in Palo Alto, Calif.
- University of California, Los Angeles
- University of Washington SOM and Seattle Children’s Hospital
- Yale Medical in New Haven, Conn.
