Wal-Mart hosts nationwide free checkups Saturday

Wal-Mart will provide free access to health screenings, services and products for individuals who visit stores during a four-hour stretch on Oct. 15.

From noon to 4:00 p.m. local time, more than 4,600 Wal-Mart stores across the country will offer costumers free blood glucose, blood pressure and vision screenings (where available), as well as product samples and information on health insurance options. Also, more than 10,000 pharmacists will offer immunizations at every Wal-Mart pharmacy in the country.

"As more than 90 percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a Wal-Mart store, we're committed and uniquely positioned to providing accessible and affordable healthcare that helps busy families live better," said George Riedl, senior vice president and president of health and wellness at Wal-Mart U.S. "These screenings provide customers with a basic yet vital understanding of their general health conditions and ways to improve it."

Last year's one-day event provided individuals with more than 280,000 health screenings, nearly 52,000 immunizations and distributed more than 2 million samples of healthier food to costumers.
