U of Washington, UCB partner to improve access to epilepsy medication

The University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle will partner with biopharmaceutical company UCB to improve patient access to epilepsy treatment and care, according to Medical Xpress

The goal of the partnership is to find new ways community pharmacists can better support and coordinate healthcare for patients living with epilepsy. The neurological disorder affects 3.4 million people nationwide and 75,000 in Washington.nationwide. 

Community pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers for many people in Washington state, Jennifer Bacci, PharmD, assistant professor in the department of pharmacy at U of Washington, told Medical Xpress. 

However, pharmacists are not often used to help close the gap in epilepsy care. 

The partnership is funded by a grant from the U of Washington Population Health Initiative, which was announced earlier this year.
