Wellsville, N.Y.-based Jones Memorial Hospital has opened an outpatient pharmacy, giving hospital patients, employees and the public access to prescription services and an on-site pharmacist, according to a Nov. 5 report from the Hornell Evening Tribune. The hospital is a 49-bed acute care hospital affiliated with Rochester, N.Y.-based University of Rochester Medicine.
The pharmacy is fully integrated with MyChart and communicates with University of Rochester Medicine staff. Patients being discharged from the hospital can have medications delivered before leaving. Vaccinations are expected to become available soon, and the pharmacy team hopes to gradually introduce delivery services to the community.
The opening is part of a broader trend of health systems expanding retail pharmacy access as national chains close locations. Parma, Ohio-based University Hospitals Parma Medical Center opened a retail pharmacy in June offering Meds to Beds and free home delivery, and Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Health opened a 12,000-square-foot outpatient pharmacy in April with drive-thru and curbside pickup.
