Hospital groups push for more time to weigh in on HRSA 340B pilot program

AHA, along with other national hospital groups, urged the Health Resources and Services Administration to extend key deadlines for its recently announced 340B rebate model pilot program.

In a joint letter issued Aug. 8, the groups said the agency’s current timeline does not allow for enough time for stakeholders to provide meaningful feedback. “With the fundamental changes a rebate model will impose on all 340B stakeholders, it is impossible for the agency to meaningfully consider, in just seven days, all the feedback it will surely receive,” the letter said.

The pilot program, which HRSA announced July 31, offers drugmakers the option to provide 340B discounts through a rebate model. The agency is accepting public comments until Sept. 8, and manufacturers are required to submit rebate plans by Sept. 15.

The groups requested HRSA extend the comment period until Sept. 15, require manufacturer submissions by Oct. 20 and approve rebate plans by Nov. 3.

In addition to the AHA, the letter was signed by America’s Essential Hospitals, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Association of American Medical Colleges, Catholic Health Association of the United States, Children’s Hospital Association and 340B Health.
