Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cigna strike value-based agreement

New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering and Cigna signed a value-based agreement under which Memorial Sloan will share savings with Cigna if cost and quality targets are hit, according to Crain's New York Business.

Cigna's employer-sponsored members will be covered under the agreement, which is part of the insurer's Collaborative Care initiative. The program, which began in 2008, has roughly 250 members.

Memorial Sloan providers will receive an upfront care coordination fee for being a part of the program. Their costs will be compared to benchmark each year, and if they save Cigna more money than the care coordination fee, the provider will share the savings, according to Crain's New York Business.

Cigna members who access Memorial Sloan will have their care coordinated by a registered nurse who will act as their single point of contact. Cigna will also offer members care management services under the agreement, and members will have 24/7 access to a Memorial Sloan-affiliated clinician.
