Lovelace medical group to drop Presbyterian Health Plan

Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Medical Group/Southwest Medical Associates will end its evergreen contract with Presbyterian Health Plan, also in Albuquerque, Jan. 1, according to an Albuquerque Journal report.

Presbyterian never inked a contract with Lovelace Medical Group, but had an evergreen — or an automatic renewal — contract with multispecialty practice Southwest Medical Associates. Lovelace Medical Group's parent company, Ardent Health Services in Nashville, Tenn., acquired Southwest Medical Associates in 2012.

Concluding the evergreen contract would affect 7,400 patients, the report states. Lovelace encouraged affected patients to seek coverage through six in-network commercial and government payers.

Lovelace did not respond to Albuquerque Journal's inquiry about its reason for the termination.
