Anthem beats Q4 estimates, Cigna's revenue gets a boost, Capital BlueCross acquires Vibra & more — 9 payer highlights

The following payers made headlines this past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Cigna reports 4.4% increase in revenue boosted by commercial business
Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna recorded a total revenue of $9.9 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2016, up 4.4 percent from $9.5 billion during the same period last year.  

2. Medica returns to Minnesota health insurance exchange in 62 counties
Minnetonka, Minn.-based Medica restored its health plans on Minnesota's health insurance exchange in 62 counties following the installment of a one-week special enrollment period.

3. UnitedHealthcare names CEO for Medicare and retirement business in Oklahoma, Texas
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare chose Christopher Abbott as CEO of its Medicare and retirement business in Okalahoma and Texas.

4. Anthem beats estimates as Q4 adjusted net income jumps 55%
Indianapolis-based Anthem reported an adjusted net income of $473.2 million in the fourth quarter of this year, a year-over-year increase of 54.7 percent from $305.8 million in Q4 2015.  

5. Integrity Health clinics resolve BCBS of Minnesota contract dispute
Eagan, Minn.-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota reached a separate contract with each of Integrity Health Network's 20 affiliated clinics, avoiding the clinics' scheduled Feb. 1 exit from the insurer's provider network.

6. Aetna considers moving HQ to Boston
Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna has engaged in discussion with the Massachusetts' governor's office for the past six months about transferring its headquarters to Boston.

7. Arkansas BCBS names executive VP, primary care manager
Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Little Rock promoted Steve Spaulding to executive vice president and chief health management officer. The insurer also named Missy Davis as primary care manager.

Harrisburg, Pa.-based Capital BlueCross will acquire a majority interest in Vibra Health Plan in Harrisburg.
