Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna has yet to determine whether to extend the deadline of its proposed $54 billion transaction with Indianapolis-based Anthem, the insurer said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
In its filing, the insurer noted it "still intends to evaluate its options in accordance with the merger agreement once the court issues its opinion in the pending civil antitrust lawsuit." The insurer also reportedly has not made a decision about whether it will "seek to terminate" the agreement.
Anthem extended the completion deadline of its proposed acquisition of Cigna from Jan. 31 to April 30, stating additional time will be needed to complete the deal regardless of the outcome of the government's antitrust lawsuit.
