Florida Hospital Orlando Installs MRI in Operating Rooms

Florida Hospital Orlando's Ginsburg Tower will now feature a new MRI machine that will allow physicians to take MRI scans in the neurosurgery floor's operating rooms, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

While intraoperative MRIs have been done in neurosurgical settings before, the report noted Florida Hospital Orlando's new IMRISneuro imaging system is among the newest technologies and will keep patients in one spot for the duration of the surgery.

Since the patient does not need to be moved to another room for the MRI, the report said there is a smaller chance for infection and a smaller chance the patient needs to return for another procedure.

The neurosurgery floor will open this fall, and the MRI system will rest on a sliding track, which can move between two of the hospital's eight operating rooms, the report said.
