Florida Health System Awarded CON For New Hospital

Jacksonville, Fla.-based St. Vincent's Healthcare, a subsidy of St. Louis, Mo.-based Ascension Health, was awarded a certificate of need for the construction of a new hospital in Clay County, Fla., after an appellate judge overturned an appeal by Orange Park (Fla.) Medical Center, according to a St. Vincent's news release.

St. Vincent's first filed the CON in 2005, along with OPMC and Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. The Agency for Healthcare Administration awarded the CON to OPMC, but a judge sent the case back to AHCA after St. Vincent's and Baptist challenged the ruling, according to the report. The CON was then awarded to St. Vincent's and appealed by OPMC.

"We are pleased to be poised to move forward with answering the increasing healthcare needs of an area that has grown so enormously over the past few years," David Meyer, vice president of St. Vincent's strategic planning and business development, said in the release.
