Jimmy McCoy was taken to Baptist Hospital April 9 after he suffered a seizure while being arrested for burglary. He fled from police when officers took off his handcuffs to allow him to use the bathroom.
Mr. McCoy ran into the room of another patient, 48-year-old Reginald Morrisey, who was admitted to the hospital for complications from a stroke. Mr. McCoy jumped on top of Mr. Morrisey in an attempt to escape through the ceiling. Officers captured Mr. McCoy after pepper spraying him. Mr. Morrisey died five days later.
The medical examiner recently ruled the case a homicide, and the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office will decide if any charges will be filed against Mr. McCoy.
