According to the report, Jewish Hospital’s departure may signal the end of the Health Alliance.

Officials from University Hospital say the Jewish Hospital’s departure will put more burden on University to cover indigent care in the region, as the University receives less outside funding than other teaching hospitals in other cities. The Health Alliance had been responsible for operating University Hospital.

Jewish Hospital leaders say they understand the concerns and are willing to join a region-wide group to help support University Hospital, according to the report. However, they are not willing to “shoulder the burden themselves.”
