Hospital M&A update: 4 latest deals

The total number of healthcare mergers and acquisitions hit a record high in 2018, and dozens of deals have been announced so far this year.

Here are four transactions involving hospitals and health systems that were announced or finalized since in the past week:

1. Allegheny Health Network to add 9th hospital
Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network signed an affiliation agreement with Grove City (Pa.) Medical Center.

2. Prospect Medical Holdings eyes deal with Connecticut hospital
Prospect Medical Holdings, a for-profit hospital operator based in Los Angeles, is exploring an affiliation with Day Kimball Healthcare, a single-hospital system based in Putnam, Conn.

3. State approves Ascension's sale of Connecticut hospital
The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy approved Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare's acquisition of substantially all of the assets of St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn., from Ascension.

4. U of Louisville board signs off on Jewish Hospital acquisition
The University of Louisville (Ky.) board approved a deal Aug. 14 to take over Jewish Hospital and KentuckyOne Health's other Louisville assets, which include three more hospitals and four outpatient centers.
