Kentucky health system acquires 13th hospital

Lexington, Ky.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare acquired Highlands Regional Medical Center, a 192-bed hospital in Prestonsburg, Ky., on Aug. 1.

Highlands Regional Medical Center is the 13th hospital to join Appalachian Regional Healthcare.

"We are excited that the Highlands team is now a part of the ARH system and our long-term plans for healthcare in eastern Kentucky," ARH President and CEO Joe Grossman said in a press release. "As a member of our ARH system, Highlands will continue to provide excellent care while benefitting from the collective stability and strength a multi-hospital system such as ARH can offer."

Trena Hall, ARH's director of corporate projects, was named interim community CEO for the hospital, now called Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center.
