Lake Whitney Medical Center was close to shuttering its doors in July after its owner, Tariq Mahmood, MD, underwent federal investigations for allegedly defrauding Medicare and Medicaid. Dr. Mahmood owned Lake Whitney Medical Center and several other rural hospitals throughout Texas.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. David Byrns serves as CEO of Frontier, while James Stanger is COO. Mr. Stanger told the Dallas Morning News that Frontier, which specializes in the management of distressed hospitals, has started updating policies and technology at Lake Whitney Medical Center.
