Envision sells ambulance business for $2.4B

Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare, the product of the 2016 AmSurg and Envision Healthcare Holdings merger, sold its ambulance business to global investment firm KKR for $2.4 billion in cash.

The sale will combine Envision's Greenwood, Colo.-based medical transportation subsidiary, American Medical Response, with KKR's Dallas-based Air Medical Group Holdings, creating an air and ground ambulance company that spans 46 states and the District of Columbia.

Envision Healthcare, President and CEO Christopher Holden said the sale will allow Envision to hone in on the provider side of its business, which includes facility-based physician services, post-acute care and ambulatory care.
