Duke LifePoint Matches HMA's $200M Bid for Munroe Regional in Florida

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint Healthcare increased its $138.7 million bid to operate Ocala, Fla.-based Munroe Regional Medical Center to match Shands/Health Management Associates' $200 million bid, according to a report by the Ocala Star Banner.

The higher offer comes days before members of Munroe's Strategic Options Work Group will meet to make a recommendation to district trustees on which bid to approve to run the hospital on a 40-year lease. Lately, discussions have centered on the $61 million difference between the two offers, according to the report.

Duke LifePoint, a joint venture between Durham, N.C.-based non-profit Duke University Health System and Brentwood, Tenn.-based for-profit hospital chain LifePoint Hospitals, has also pledged $180 million to facility improvements. The proposal submitted by Naples, Fla.-based for-profit chain Health Management Associates, in partnership with Gainesville, Fla.-based Shands Healthcare, would include $150 million in facility improvements.
