Under the agreement, 48 AUC students will complete about 11 months of core clinical rotations with various Bronx-Lebanon departments. AUC will also provide financial and technical support for an onsite medical simulation center for the rotating students, which will include six exam bays, adult and adolescent simulation rooms and a learning facility.
The affiliation builds on a six-year collaboration between the medical school and the hospital, during which more than 1,000 AUC students trained at the nonprofit Bronx-Lebanon hospital.
“Bronx-Lebanon provides critically needed care for an ethnically diverse and medically underserved patient population,” Heidi Chumley, MD, executive dean and chief academic officer at AUC, said in a prepared statement. “This is an excellent training opportunity for our students, and a major component of the pipeline of new doctors to address New York’s physician shortage.”
