White House staffer left email credentials at bus stop

White House staffer Ryan McAvoy left a piece of White House stationery that contained the passwords to his encrypted ProtonMail email account at a bus stop in Washington, D.C., The Intercept reported March 17.

The incident comes just days after House Intelligence Committee Democrats filed a memo March 13 seeking more rigorous investigation into alleged Russian hacking of the 2016 U.S. election. This includes determining how President Donald Trump's campaign members, particularly Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, used various messaging services, including WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Signal, Slack, Instagram and Snapchat on their encrypted networks. The Democrats also expressed interest in filing a subpoena into the matter, according to The Hill.

In September 2017, it was revealed that six of President Trump's advisers occasionally used private email addresses to conduct official White House business.
