Peter Geier, former COO of OSU Wexner Medical Center, dies at 60

Peter Geier, former COO of Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and senior lecturer and executive in residence at the OSU Fisher College of Business, has died.

The circumstances of Mr. Geier’s death were not specified.

While serving as Wexner Medical Center’s COO from 2001-16, Mr. Geier led the development and implementation of the hospital’s first strategic plan, emphasizing areas such as cancer, neuroscience and critical care programs.

Mr. Geier also developed an executive management team to promote teamwork and led a comprehensive review of operating expenses, resulting in substantial revenue growth and operating efficiencies.

“The teamwork [Mr. Geier] fostered within the management team was a key ingredient to our great success over the past decade,” Ohio State University President Michael V. Drake, MD, said in a statement to Wexner Medical Center faculty and staff.

“He developed and nurtured the careers of dozens of current and future leaders and brought a sense of structure and rigor during a critical period of growth and innovation for the Medical Center.”
