Peter Sands to lead Global Fund: 5 things to know

Peter Sands, a former British banker, is the new executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Sands.

1. He is chairman of the World Bank’s International Working Group on Financing Pandemic Preparedness, according to Global Fund.

2. He is also a research fellow at the Harvard Global Health Institute and the Mossavar Rahmani Center for Business and Government, both in Cambridge, Mass.

3. Previously, Mr. Sands was CEO of London-based Standard Chartered Bank for about a decade.

4. He also previously was a board member of the Global Business Coalition on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and served as lead nonexecutive director on the United Kingdom health department’s board.

5. Additionally, he led the U.S. National Academy of Medicine’s Commission on a Global Health Risk Framework for the Future.
